Surname: Fleming, Biggar, McFarlane, McFaden, Kerr
-------------------------
William Biggar was a manufacturer of paisley shawls, and a wool merchant.
He was a Burgess of the town of Paisley, and also of Glasgow. He married
Jean King. Their son John, born 1751, was also a wool merchant and was
Burgess of Glasgow around 1787. John Biggar Jr. was born 1783 and married
Agnes Sinclair. John Jr was a Burgess of Paisley in 1838, and was a bookseller
on the High Street and also a member of the Weaver's Guild. He and Agnes
had seven children. Their son James was a bookseller in Paisley. John III
born 1818 emigrated to Baltimore, MD, where he owned Oxford Hall, which
later became the St Elizabeth Home for Coloured Children. Son Alex was
born in 1838, and was a music master at Rothesay Academy. He founded Alexander
Biggar Ltd, Music Merchants, in 1867. It remained in the family until it
was sold to EW Hutchinson in 1985. Don't know how much of this applies
to your Biggars but they seem to be a very diverse family.
