The 1841 Census for Scotland did not record a person's position in the
household.
Therefore any transcription that purports to show such information is quite
misleading.
It can, at best, be only someone's guess and a fundamental rule of family
history is never to rely on guesswork.
And if the Relationship has been guessed at, what other assumptions and/or
guesses have been made?
David, it may be worth your while to see if the records you need are
available on http://www.freecen.org.uk//cgi/search.pl. so that you can do a
cross check. All except a couple of parts of Paisley 1841 have been
uploaded.
It is not my wish to decry the efforts of others who transcribe old
documents. Far from it, I applaud the many hours of unpaid work put in by
all the volunteers who undertake such tasks on our behalf. They do a
wonderful job.
But forewarned is forearmed, as they say.
And for any volunteers on the Renfrewshire FreeCEN Project, may I remind you
of a remark from a Benny Hill skit of many years ago, where Benny was
playing the part of a schoolteacher.
"Never ASSUME, boy, because it makes an ASS out of U and ME!"
All the best
