I use Legacy 5.0. I believe there is a free version and a deluxe that you
can pay for, which I do. If memory serves, I used the free version for years
before upgrading, and was quite happy with it.

It offers a bit more flexibility than PAF does, especially for entering
multiple events for people. I switched to it when I was at a convention, and
most of the people I spoke with, that were doing extensive work, endorsed the
tool saying it was what they personally used.

I was able to import all my work from the PAF files very easily, which
really helped, as I am not that good with computer programs. There are also many
very useful output features regarding source citations, locations, etc. that
I print when I go out in the field (Scotland)

Again, if there is not a free version of this software, please delete this
message. I just want to offer my opinion, not a commercial endorsement.

I also use Legacy 6 and have tried several other programs, but every time I
keep comming back to Legacy. Far and away the best software on the market.

YES it is free in it's basic form and not expensive even for the delux
version. You can download it from this site:

I strongly recommend it to anyone.

Good Luck.

Are you Tracing your Family Tree or researching your Family's History.
Have you tried
_www.lostcousins.com_ (http://www.lostcousins.com/)

They have a great system of putting you in contact with other members who
are researching your family.
All you have to do is enter ALL you relatives that appear on the 1881 Census
and they do the rest, they are good at helping with your research as well.

If you decide to join, and basic membership is free, I would be most
grateful if you would use my Personal code LC53294.
Many thanks.
Good Luck with your research.
