Wilst not wishing to elevate peoples thoughts to the truly paranoic, I would
strongly recommend that with the increased usage of unmetered Internet
access, that in addition to using a good Anti-Virus program, that some
thought should be also given to a firewall system on one's computer. This is
especially if you have your computer continuously connected to the Internet
for any length of time. Yes, I know, there is no 100% sure way of keeping a
proficient hacker out of your computer, but at least with a firewall program
it does make it more difficult, and might persuade them to go elsewhere.
What a good firewall program does do though is stop a hacker gaining use of
your computer if it may have a 'Trojan-horse' virus somewhere within your
system, and there have been a number going around.
