Tony - re your list of marks on seamen: the crooked fingers - could this
sometimes be Dupuytren's contracture? My father had this in both pinkies.
His father was an Orcadian, whose mother was from Fair Isle. Dupuytren's
was thought to be due to hard manual labour as in shipyards in Glasgow
(quite prevalent in Glasgow) but since thought to be a genetic disease from
Viking invasion times! Am i right?? And probably prevalent in Glasgow
because many Glaswegians originally came from Orkney and Shetland.

Also, near the end of your list, the man with "lump on forehead" - was he a
Williamson/Brown/Leslie or Irvine from Fair Isle perchance? It's just that
i have, hidden by my fringe, a quite small rounded lump, bone, that appeared
from nowhere about 20 years ago, and just wondered if it might be genetic?
I know this is a strange thought...
