Hello, Bruce
There are 2 possible sets of parents for JOHN (one mother was Ann, the other
Isabella). EUPHEMIA was probably daughter of George Mackay & Isabella McLean,
who are in the 1881 at Moin House. The George Mackay, grandson living with
them is probably John & Euphemia's son. (All these "probablies" because I
have been caught out before, depending on the IGI alone!).
EUPHEMIA BUCHAN MACKAY was born 3 months before the local doctor, ROBERT
WALKER BLACK, died. So we think her family gave her a completely new name, in
his memory - Trish suggested that he may have saved mother and/or child.
I take your point, about the middle given name being used in the family. My
mother-in-law, who was born in Scullomie, always called her sons by their
middle names.
"Mary" is actually my own middle name. My mother was from Yorkshire and it
happened there too. :-)
