late Mr James Carter, of the Swan Inn, Dumfries.

after a lingering illness, Margaret Baxter, widow of the late Mr James
Underwood, farmer, Lady Hall, advanced in years.

inst., Mary Peters, a native of Gallowa;y, advanced in aged - universally
respected.
BELL, Henry - D17/12/1843 - At 82, George Street, Edinburgh, on the 17th
inst., Henry, second son of Dr Charles Bell.
M'KENZIE, Charles Dickson - D1/6/1843- At Merrat, Bengal, on the 1st June
last, Charleas Dickson M'Kenzie, Bombardier, Bengal Artillery. He was by
trade a plasterer, and a native of Dumfries.
BROADFOOT, Captain Robert - D5/8/1843 - At China, on the 5th August last,
very much respectd, and sincerely regretted by everyone who knew him,
Captain Robert Broadfoot, of the ship "Davenport" of Liverpool and youngest
son of the late John Broadfoot, Esq., Gatehouse-of Fleet.
M'CONNEL/M'CLURE, Barbara - D13/12/1843 - suddenly at Glasnick, parish of
Penninghame, on the 13th inst., Barbara M'Clure, aged 69 years, relict of Mr
William M'Connel, farmer and cattle dealer, there.
CLARK, John - D15/12/1843 - At Kirkcudbright, on the 15th curt., after a
brief illness, aged 63, Mr John Clark, innkeeper. He was half-brother to
Dr. Clark, of St. Andrew's Church, Edinburgh.
CAVAN/SMITH, Mary - D6/12/1843 - At Millburn, Kirkcudbright, on the 6th
inst., very suddenly, Mrs Mary Smith, widow of Mr William Cavan, innkeeper,
and eldest daughter of Mr William Smith.
M'GOWAN, Miss - D13/12/1843 - At Doon Cottage, Twynholm, on the 13th curt.,
Miss M'Gowan. For several years she had been engaged as an instructress of
youth; was of a sincerely pious turn of mind, of an amiable and obliging
disposition, and is deeply regretted, not only by many attached friends, but
also by the parents of those children who were, at various times, committed
to her fostering and assiduous care.

the 5th inst., in the prime of life, Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, youngest
daughter of the late James Kirkpatrick, farmer in the Qamp.

William, son of Mr James Johnstone, road contractor, aged 18 months.
HATHORN, Sarah - D6/12/1843 - On the 6th inst., at the house of her brother,
No. 40, Brunswick Square, London, Mrs Sarah Hathorn, aged 84.
