All my paternal line seemed to have been in 96 District/ Union Co, and so many
are dead ended there. My list/ lineage follows:
1. Jonathan Paulk b. 8/1/1801, Union Co. married Elizabeth Darby b. 4/16/1805,
Union Co.
2. Jonathan was the son of Joshua Paulk b. 1773 in 96 Dist., died 1/15/1813,
Union Co., and Nancy McDonald b SC. Parents unk. died in Wayne Co., TN
3. Elizabeth Darby dau of Phillip Darby b. 1775 in Montgomery Co., MD and died
in Wayne Co., TN Phillip married Nancy Davis in Union Co bef 1799. PARENTS OF
NANCY ARE UNK. It is thought that Nancy was b. 1778 in 96 Dist.
4. Joshua Paulk son of Jacob Paulk and Jean Howard. Jacob b. 1740 in Tolland ,
CT. and died in 1802 in Union Co. Do not know anything about Jean Howard
except she remained in Union Co. after Joshua 's death.
5. Jacob was the son of Jonathan Paulk b. 1703 in Concord, MA and died in 96
Dist or GA. Jonathan was married to Rebecca Ruth Stearns, who was b. in MA
and prob. died in GA.
6. Phillip was the son of Josias Darby and Drucilla. Josias b. ca 1734 in
Montgomery Co., MD and died ca 1820 in Union Co. Drucilla's maiden name unk.
no info on her.
7. Martha Young b. 11/15/ 1791 in Union Co. married John Austin in Madison
Co., AL Martha was the dau of Jesse Young and Elizabeth Martindale. Elizabeth
was b. in Bucks Co, PA Place of death unk.
8. Jesse Young b. abt 1755 in Buck Co., PA and was thought to be the son of
William Young. Died in 1807 in Union Co. Wm. Young died in Perry Co., TN.
9. Wm. Young is thought to be the son of Thomas Young, Sr, died in Union Co.
10. Elizabeth Martindale was the dau of Wm. Martindale b. 8/30/1723 in Bucks
Co., Pa and died 7/15/1808 in Union Co. and Martha Merrick b. abt 1727, died
in Union Co. Martha was the dau of Thomas and Sarah Merrick.
Other Union Co. connections : Absalom Lancaster and Langstons.
Other SC Connections of the same era: John Threatt thought to have been born
in Kershaw: Sarah Shelby, dau of Rees and Elizabeth Shelby of Mecklenburg Co.;
Harriet Anderson b. 4/7/1823 in SC, father John Anderson b. ca 1790 in
Ireland: Ellender Nail wife of John Anderson b. abt 1794 in SC; Elias Faires
b. 5/24/1797 in York Co. m. Charlotte Huddleston b. 10/15/1802 in SC;
Charlotte dau of Benjamin Huddleston and Margaret Slanton; Dorcas Pinson b.
ca 1757 in Laurens Co m. Stephen Austin and died in Hardin Co., TN; Richard
Hard Faires b. 1/9/1773 in York Co. m. Elizabeth Day b. 5/15/1785 in SC.(
Parents unk). Richard's parents were James Faires and Jean Agnes Adair( both
died in York Co.); Samuel Lancaster d. in Spartanburg 1802. and married Agnes
Langston.
I am Sylvia Paulk Rhodes living in Santa Fe, NM. I have joined the SC
Historical Society so that I could be part of the Early Settlers of SC
project.
Thanks for any help that you can provide on the Paulks and any of my other
dead ends. No Paulks left wills that I can find. None of the above marriages
in Union Co. have been proven with hard data. Sylvia Rhodes
