I found this curious document buried in the deeds on a page I had copied. I think Union County genealogists will find it interesting and rather humorous.

Decr. 13th 1816
Whereas report has been in circulation that Thomas Burns has made use of Slanderous conversation in Saying James Dugan Esqr. was a rogue a liar and a rascal, which has been testified by two men that were present, that he did say those things. W. Burns says if he Did say so he does not remember it, and that he is truly sorry for it for he Does not believe, nor never had any right to believe or say any such thing of James Dugan Esqr. signed Thomas Burns --
