Dear Listers:
My post to the lists are always scrambled with =20, etc. Please accept
my apology, but I don't know why this happens. Any suggestions?
My husband is descended from James Savage and Mary Rodgers. My Morgan
brick wall is his great grandfather, Charles Tigg Morgan, who was born in
Jefferson County, Alabama on October 4, 1850. He died in Winston County,
Alabama on October 24, 1924.
The eleven children of James Savage and Mary Rodgers were James T.,
Josiah, Benjamin, John, Martha, Catherine Elizabeth, Robert, Thomas D., Mary,
Jane and James Savage.
1. James T., born on March 14, 1798.
2. Josiah Savage was born on February 10, 1800.
3. Benjamin Savage was born on January 3, 1802.
4. John Savage was born on December 20, 1803. He had at least one child,
Nancy Savage. She married Thomas Gordon.
5. Martha "Patsy" Savage was born on July 13, 1806. She married Willis
Morgan and settled in the Warrior area of Jefferson County, Alabama by 1850.
6. Catherine Elizabeth Savage was born on December 7, 1808. She married
John Davis, the double-first cousin to John R. Davis who married her sister,
Jane.
7. Robert Savage was born on April 4, 1811.
8. Thomas D. was born on October 12, 1813.
9. Mary Savage was born March 10, 1816. She married ___ Gabbott.
10. Jane Savage was born on March 22, 1823. She married John R. Davis.
11. James Savage was born on July 23, 1823. The information has been
accurately copied. The birth year of both Jane and James was given as 1823.
It is not known which date is in error.
On January 27, 1834, James and Mary Rodgers Savage purchased a 370 acres
farm at Hughes Creek in Union County, South Carolina. It was mortgaged to
Samuel Brooks and L. Hooker and was paid off on August 8, 1837.
In 1838, after Mary's death, James lived with his son, John, in Fayette,
Alabama. (Descendants of John still live in the Fayette area.) Later that
year he was in Benton County, Alabama. On December 8, 1838, through a
power-of-attorney to his son, Thomas, all land on Hughes Creek, property, and
slaves were sold to Thomas Gordon who had married Nancy, the daughter of
James brother, John Savage.
Any information on the descendants of James and Mary Rodgers will be
greatly appreciated.
God bless you,
Betty Morgan
