I have a Karl Taeger, but he is not your Karl Taeger--however, I believe that there is a good chance that the two are related. It was common practice in Germany to name a child after a brother or an uncle. My Karl Taeger was born on March 17, 1862, in Ribbensdorf, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. He was the son of Friedrich Christian Taeger (who, I believe, was born in 1840 and who may have had a brother by the name of Karl Taeger) and Johanna Wilhelmine Mechau. His father died when Karl was 7. Karl first emigrated to England (date unknown) and then came to the U.S. in 1888 (he may have been "brought over" by another relative). Karl--who changed his name to Charles--first lived in Chicago, but in 1897 he went to Decorah, Iowa, married Bertha C. Schwarz, and had an only child, a daughter (Anna Taeger) in 1899. Carl died on Nov. 7, 1951, in Decorah, Iowa.
