Social Security Death Index (online) verifies Winifred SUMNERS (4 Jan. 1904 - Nov. 1985, White R., Mellette Co., SD). A death certificate, available for $10 from the Register of Deeds of the county or from the State Dept. of Health, Pierre, SD, should name her parents. You should also be able to find her with her parents on 1910 & 1920 censuses.

BLM GLO land patents (online) in Mellette Co. include Emma, Joseph A., & Wm. F. EDMONDS. Could those be older siblings who homesteaded there?
