EARLY PIONEER TO BE IN HISTORICAL PAGENT
Huron,SD-In scouting for personages to take part in the great historic pageant to be held here on July 4 and 5 the American Legion committee has made an interesting discovery. Charley MINER has consented to drive a yoke of oxen across the stage in a poineer scene of the pageant. When the committee asked him to do so, since he is the first settler of Beadle county, they learned that he and his family are the oldest family in South Dakota. The MINER family came into the state in 1859 locating at various places. It was fully 20 years later, in 1879 that Mr. MINER rolled across the treeless prairie in his covered wagon and settled on the James river a few miles south of Huron. Although he recently had an unfortunate accident in which he lost one hand, Mr Miner still presents an impressive appearance. Mrs. B. L. THURSTON, the director of the pageant management from Minneapolis, stated that this was the first time in her wide experience that the original local settler was still li!
ving and able to take part in a historic pageant.
