Searching for the birth parents of my grandmother Katie Johnson (b. 30 Oct 1888 South Dakota). She was adopted in 1893 in Marshall County by Charles and Anna Goodsell(see attached). I've tried calling the South Dakota Department of Health but they told me her adoption file is sealed unless the court is petitioned by the adopted child or the birth parents. Since my grandmother has been dead for 30 years, they said records are permanently sealed.

Any advice on finding information on this Johnson family would be greatly appreciated.
