I am a new member of the Sears list. I am researching Mary Ann
Sears/Sayers who was born abt 1810 in Ohio, m. 10 Mar 1828, Montgomery Co,
OH, Andrew Martin; they went to Randolph Co, IN, abt 1836. Andrew died
there in 1867. Mary went to MN, and is found in the 1880 Stearns Co, MN,
census, aged 70, living with a dau and husband, John and Mary Brakefield.
Her birth place and her parents' birth places are given as Ohio.
Andrew Martin was born 3 May 1806, Salt Lick Tp., Fayette, PA. His parents
were Johannes (John) Martin and Appolonia Bucher.
Mary Ann Sears may have had a brother James. She may be a daughter of
Thomas Sayres, b 1770, Salem Co., NJ, and Frances Dye, but I have not yet
proven or disproven this theory. Thomas Sayres did have a son James, and a
dau Mary of the right age to be Mary Ann Sears Martin. However, he was not
born in Ohio, but census records being what they are, this does not
necessarily mean anything!
Apparently quite a bit is known about Thomas Sayres through various
records, and I do have some of this data about him and would be happy to
share.
