Hello, List! I am new to the SEARS list. I am trying to find the line of my great-great-great- grandmother, Margaret SEARS. She was born about 1819 in Canada. She married Jonas L. HIGGINS there (most likely near Montreal as the HIGGINS were from that area). Her parents were Peter SEARS and Josephine LaTOUR.

Margaret and Jonas lived in Vergennes, Addison County, VT. They had the following children:
1. William HIGGINS, b. Abt. 1841, Quebec, Canada; d. Abt. 1899, Rutland County, Vermont.

2. Freeman HIGGINS, b. Abt. 1842, Quebec, Canada.

3. Jonas HIGGINS, b. Abt. 1845, Quebec, Canada; d. Bet. 1892 - 1900, Unknown. (my great-great grandfather)

4. Mary Ann HIGGINS, b. 1847; d. June 25, 1862, Ferrisburgh, Addison Co., VT Census.

5. Jennie HIGGINS b. Abt. 1850 m. (1) Unknown PRESTON (2) Frank GOSLOW, June 29, 1878 in Vergennes, Addison County, VT

6. Almond HIGGINS, b. 1854, Vermont.

7. Emily HIGGINS, b. Abt. 1855.

8. Margaret HIGGINS, b. June 1856; d. March 1871, Vergennes, Addison Co., VT Census; scarlet fever

9. Susan HIGGINS, b. 1857, Ferrisburgh, Addison Co., VT.

10. Joseph J. HIGGINS, b. July 1859, Canada; d. June 16, 1869, Vergennes, Addison Co., VT Census; drowned

11. Theresa HIGGINS, b. Abt. 1861.

12. Male HIGGINS, b. October 16, 1862, Ferrisburgh, Addison Co., VT; name was listed as "male" on town record book

Josephine (Margaret's mother) died in Ferrisburgh, Addison County, VT on February 20, 1869 at the age of 71.

Also listed in the Vergennes St. Peter's Church, there are baptism records for children of Pierre & Timothy Cyre/Cyr/Zaire (okay that was a wild misspelling, but it is the same family), including a "Louis" and "Baptiste". I know that Peter/Pierre (Pierre is the name written at St. Peter's) is Margaret's brother because I have the marriage extract between between Peter and Amelia Brusso/Bruceau - they married January 1, 1849 and his parents are listed as Peter SEARS and Josephine LaTour.

I have also found several of them on census records, including Peter Sears and Josepine listed on the 1860 census, where they are living with their son, David. Peter's age is listed as 61 and Josephine is 60. I also have David and John listed with their families on the 1850 census.

If anyone has any information on this family or might be connected to "my" family, please contact me: - I'd love to hear from you!

God Bless!
