This is an excerpt from a correspondence that I received a few years back:
"Some say the Barbee family originated in France, but has been in England
for many centuries. They are found in the town of Barby in Northhamptonshire.
The Barbee, Sears and Harward families are so intermarried (even by Old
South standards) it is difficult to keep them straight.
Henry Sears b. 5/19/1717 in Va. d. 1774 in Orange County, NC married Jane
Watts and 2nd wife Rosanna Barbee dtr of John Barbee and Ann Miller. Children
included Barbee Sears who married Margaret Polly Peggy Barbee and Sarah
Asally Sears who married John Harward. Will recorded in Orange Co. NC on
11-8-1768 witnessed by William Barbee. Listed are wife Rose and John Barbee Jr. as
executors and Children John, Salley, EDWARD, Nancy, Barby and Harry."
Henry Sears was my Gx4 grandfather. I can go back one more generation to
Joseph Sears (1691-1740) born and died in Christchurch, Middlesex, Va. married
to Mary (last name unknown) born 1696. Joseph and Mary had in addition to
Henry, Catherine, Elizabeth and Violita.
Hope this helps, cousin.
Jerry Sears

To whom it may concern,
I just joined the Sears mailing list my name is TR Revella, I am an
architectural conservator in Edinburgh. I am researching, and have been for sometime
the family of my 4th great grandmother Elizabeth Ann Dillon, daughter of John
Dillon and Arilla Sears. If anyone has more advance information on her
grandfather Edward Sears husband of Mary Barbee it would be most appreciated.
Thank you.
