Rae Jean,

There is no convenient "by surname" index available to SS when it is reading
a TMG v4.0d dataset. (TMG v5+ has a dedicated surname sort field that
respects the Name Style Surname Sort output template) For TMG v4.0d, SS uses
the name record (unprocessed) to create the "By Surname" page sequence. In
TMG v4.0d, name parts are stored in this sequence: Surname, Title, Given,
Suffix. So those fields, in that sequence, determines how they sort when SS
produces the pages in "By Surname" sequence.

For the name index, SS does a lot of special processing and so the TMG v4.0d
results in the name index should be a closer match with TMG v5+.

I don't know what you mean by the comment in your P.S. If you mean that
clicking a name in the index should open the person page scrolled to that
particular entry, that works properly in SS 1.8.
