Look in the TMG Help file under Exhibit Properties=>Description Tab.

The side by side and top bottom situations may be due to the sizes of
the different images.

As for the duplicates, I can't help although I suspect that you may
have an image assigned both as a person and as a Tag Exhibit. I
would look at the Exhibits column and check the Tags that are
checked. (If you have no Exhibits column in the Tab Box, make sure
that Preferences=>Program Options=>Tag Box=>Show Exhibits column
option on the left is selected.
