Dear Corinne,
My husband's advice is to try the NSW State Archives. We have had a
quick look but couldn't find any reference to people called Eldridge
arriving in 1838 (though there were some on other dates), nor any
reference to the "Amelia Thompson".
He was surprised not to find the ship. Is it worth going back to your
source for this information to check again?
(I dragged him into it because he's the one with Australian ancestors
so knows his way round these records. I'm only a first generation
Aussie.)
Regards,
Eleanor
