Extract from M. J. Mc Andrew's "History of Hawley" from "James O;Connor's
Letter ". " At number sixteen ten miles from Hawley, lived Mr. and Mrs.
Patrick Brown, members of St. Philomena's congregation. They had an
interesting family. Mr. Brown, was an engineer at sixteen plans, was a noted
mechanic. His son Michael E. Brown, also engaged in mechanics and had the
Pennsylvania Gravity engines doing fine. He is foreman of a machine shop in
New York at present and makes his home in Brooklyn. Mary A., one of Mr.
Brown's daughter's married the late Michael COUGHLIN, who lived in Hawley and
was a runner on the Pioneer. Frank H.,one of Mr. and Mrs. COUGHLIN sons is
the Vice President of the Pennsylvania Coal Company. The other son, William
P., was a noted league ball player and for the past six years has been coach
at Lafayette College, Easton. "
PS William COUGHLIN William P. COUGHLIN was captain and third baseman of the
famous Detroit Tigers during the first decade of the American League. In
1907, 1908 and 1909 the Tigers captured the championship in furious fighting
finishes. On those teams were Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, Donie Bush, Charley
O'Leary, Claud Rossman, "Wild Bill" Donovan, George Mullin and Charley
Schmidt.
Hope we all can find some connections.
Lots of luck
