When I spoke with Jackson R. Dunlap, Jr of Brown, Shiels, Beauregard, &
Chasanov - Attorneys at Law, he told me that he had successfully made
application to the D.A.R. for a female member of our line. This was due to
her Shankland heritage.
If you remember, he is the lawyer who was involved with the relocation of
Shankland remains at the Lewes Presbyterian Church. If he is still alive, he
may be able to provide provenance that a Shankland was directly involved in
the Revolution. The ancillary roles you mention may have been in existance
then, too - so I can't be certain.
