Can anyone help? I have just started out researching my roots. My grandfather was James Wallace Shearer born 1905 in Govan. His parents were James McCarlie Shearer and Mary Ann Shearer nee McCoskrie (they married in 1894) and had 3 other children, Margaret Wallace Shearer, Agnes Agnew Campbell Shearer and Ann Law McCoskrie Shearer.

James McCarlie Shearer's parents were James Shearer and Jane McCarlie. Does anyone recognise any of these names? I would be most grateful for any help or advice which would help me to discover more. As far as I know, the family remained in Portpatrick but they were people who worked in shipping and so it is highly possible that some of the relations wandered out into the big wide world.
