I'm sure that you will get some knowledgable replies. There are a couple of
books, Two very old History of the Shenandoah Valley books in my local
library. At the FHC locally there is a copy of "Settlers on the Long Grey
Trail" a recent book about the Shenandoah history. I have looked in them a
little bit. I think that the 1740's date is a little late.
The first explorations were done a little earlier by some men from NY and NJ
who included some of my ancestors. VANMETER for one. I would be willing to
look up some more of this information if no one else is forthcoming with it.
