Hi! I'm new to the list, and would like to receive any information you
might have on the HOUBERT or HOUBURT or HOLBERT or HOWBERT or HUBBERT
family of Shenandoah County, VA. I am descended from a John HOLBERT (c
1770-1821), believed to be the son of Nicholas HOUBERT (April 1787 Will
in Shenandoah Co. names children Peter, John and Catherine).

This family seems to have been closely associated with the STOVERS in
Shenandoah Co., though the relationship is not clear to me at this early
point. For example, there is a court record dated 31 May 1782:

Alexander Hite, Gentleman. Guardian of John and Catherine HOWBERT and
John and Catherine STOVER, orphans, returned an account of the
guardianship of their estates which is ordered to be recorded
.......Shenendoah County, Virginia.

Later, in Rutherford CO, NC, John HOLBERT's son Benjamin HOLBERT would
be found married to Charity STOVER, daughter of Jacob STOVER (of
Botetourt Co) and Sarah Wells.

Can someone tell me about Alexander HITE's role in this county as well?
