According to the massive 4 volume 5,226 page "Genealogical Abstracts of
Revolutionary War Pension Files" (Waynesboro, TN: National Historical
Pub Co. 1990-) by Virgil D. White, twenty-six Sherwood's who served in
the War of Independence applied for pensions. Fourteen served from CN,
eight from NY, one from both NY & CN, one from NY & MA, one from NJ and
one from VA. Copies of these pension files are available from the
National Archives by mail for a fee (I think $37.00). As far as I can
determine from NARA's website, the 2,670 microfilm rolls of these
pensions are also available for viewing in DC as well several NA
regional offices (Kansas City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, New York,
Pittsfield, MA, Anchorage, AK, Laguna Nigel, CA, San Francisco, Denver,
Atlanta and Ft. Worth).

Below are listed the twenty-six Sherwood's who applied for pensions with
my own abridgement of the abstracts contained in the above mentioned
publication--Mr. White's abstracts are more detailed (and, of course, as
those of us who have seen pensions records know, the complete original
records are full of pretty amazing information). The number following
the soldiers name is the pension file number.

born 1751; married Mary BANKS in 1790 at Fairfield, CN where the soldier
lived during the War; Mary's father Daniel BANKS and brother Samuel
BANKS.

2. Adiel SHERWOOD (S42281) NY
68 years old in 1821; in 1818 living in Kingsbury, Washington co., NY
with wife Sarah who is 66 years old.

3. Andrew SHERWOOD (W19021) NY
born 1746; married #2 Judah RYCKMAN in 1784 at Cornwall, NY; died 1831
at Independence, Allegany co., NY; she died 1861; during War lived in
New Windsor, Orange co., NY; children: Joseph b.1785, William b.1788,
David b.1791, Sarah b.1794, Samuel b.1796, Hannah b.1800, Stephen
b.1803, Nancy b.1806; grandson William M. STROBRIDGE; son Joseph in 1856
at McKean co., PA.

4. Asa SHERWOOD (W26468) CN
in 1818 56 years old; married Molly PHILLIPS in 1783 at Green Farms, CN;
died 1834; she died 1848 at Guilford, NY; children in 1854: Isaac of
Greene, NY, William of Norwich, NY, David of Unadilla, NY, Asa T. of
Ostego, NY, John L. of Guilford, NY, Abigail BRANDT of Guilford, NY and
Sarah INGERSOLL of Guilford, NY.

5. Daniel SHERWOOD (W17812) CN
in 1820 63 years old; married Polly HILL in 1784 at New Milford, CN;
died 1834; daughter Ann married Amos MARSH; Polly has a brother Solomon
HILL.

6. Eliphalet SHERWOOD (W22187) CN
married Abigail --?-- in 1779 at Fairfield, CN, died 1831 Fairfield, CN.

7. James SHERWOOD (W24935) NY
in 1820 65 years old; married Sarah --?-- in 1783 at New Fairfield, CN;
died 1838 Poultney, NY; served from Fishkill, NY; daughter Temperence.

8. Jedediah SHERWOOD (S41156) CN
in 1818 54 years old and living in Portage co., OH; in 1821 moved to
Fairfield, Franklin co., VT; died 1854; served from Fairfield, CN.

9. John SHERWOOD (S42282) MA & NY
in 1820 68 years old and living in Stanford, Dutchess co., NY; died
1841; children in 1847: Stephen A. SHERWOOD of Albany, NY and Jasper
SHERWOOD of Cooperstown, Ostego co., NY.

10. Jonathan SHERWOOD (R9503) CN
born 1755 at Fairfield, CN; served from Ridgefield, CN.

11. Lemuel SHERWOOD (BLW 1739-100)
lived at Sharon, CN during War; died Sharon, CN about 1785; in 1835
grand-daughter Irene CLARK of Wayne co., NY.

12. Moses SHERWOOD (W19352) NY
born 1762 Westchester co., NY; married Applonia ROSENCRANTZ in 1783 at
New Hackensack, Dutchess co., NY; died 1837 at Mt. Pleasant, Westchester
co., NY; two children: an unamed son born about 1784 who had died about
1812 with wife and 12 children; John b.1786 married 1818 Fanny Weeks
b.1797 and had these children: Mary b.1818, Cynthy b.1820, Ausin b.1823,
Elizer Ann b.1824, Edward b.1829, John Sherwood, jr. b.1832; soldier had
brother Aaron SHERWOOD.

13. Nathan SHERWOOD (W17804) NY
in 1818 59 years old and living at Bergen, Genesee co., NY; married Lucy
HOLLISTER in 1790; died 1822 at Byron, NY; she died 1849; children in
1820: Ira age 18, Lucy age 16, Polly age 14, Abigail age 12, Anson age
9, Jesse age 6; children in 1849: Lucy widow of Edmund HALLY, Mary wife
of Seth COOK, Abigail wife of Eleazer EVERETT, John, James, Ira, Anson
Jesse.

14. Nehemiah SHERWOOD (S11374) CN
born 1761 Reading, CN; brother Thomas, sister Elizabeth; lived in
Ostego, Pompey, Catherine, and Bath, NY.

15. Nehemiah SHERWOOD (S36309) CN
in 1818 67 years old and living in Ridgefield, CN; died 1823.

16. Nehemiah SHERWOOD (S40426) CN
in 1820 63 years old and living in Venago co., PA; one son, three
step-children; enlisted at Ridgefield, CN.

17. Nehemiah SHERWOOD (W26457) NY
in 1818 56 years old; married Mary --?-- in 1784; died 1819; enlisted at
Westchester co., NY; 1838 widow living at Bedford, NY; 1847 son Gilbert
SHERWOOD of Cortlandt, Westchester co., NY; soldier had 12 children.

18. Reuben SHERWOOD (S14455) CN
born 1754 at Fairfield, CN and lived there at enlistment and was there
in 1832.

19. Seth SHERWOOD (S14431) CN
in 1832 71 years old at Washington co, NY; enlisted at New Fairfield,
CN; after War at Dutchess co, NY, New Canaan, NY, Hebron, NY.

20. Seth N. SHERWOOD (W15801)
born 1743 at Stratford, CN; married Ann--?-- in 1783; died 1832;
enlisted at Kingsbury, Washington co, NY; brothers Adiel and Capt.
Thomas SHERWOOD; in 1832 son Daniel at Woodstock, NY age 64; in 1838 son
Stephen T. at Cayuga co., NY; Truman D PITCHER of Orleans co., NY says
soldier's mother was his father's sister.

CN during War; a Zalmon SHERWOOD mentioned in file.

24. William SHERWOOD (R9504) NY
born 1759 at Cornwall, Orange co., NY and where he lived during War;
lived at Gorham, Ontario co., NY, Middlesex, Yates co., NY, Italy, Yates
co., NY; brother Andrew Sherwood of Tompkins co., NY in 1832.
