Asa T Sherwood was baptized in Green Farms, CT July 4, 1762; died in Guilford, NY, June 18, 1834, where he settled when it was a part of Oxford; married Mary Phillips. He was one of those small CT boys who went into the Revolutionary army as soon as he could hold a gun and served seven years. His brothers and sisters, some of whom settled in this section, were: Levi, Elen, Isaac, Abigail, John & Hezekiah, twins, and Hannah.
Page 332: The descent of James W Sherwood of Oxford from Thomas Sherwood, who came to America from Ipswich, England in 1634 is as follows:

The descent of Asa T Sherwood on the maternal side is:
i. John Howland born in 1593 in England. By first wife, said to be a daughter of Gov. Carver, he had a daughter, Desire.
ii. Desire Howland born in 1623 in Plymouth married Capt John Gorham. He and Desire had Jabez.
iii. Jabez Gorham born August 3, 1656 in Barnstable, Mass, married Hannah (Sturges) Gray and they had son Joseph.
iv. Joseph Gorham born August 22, 1692 married Deborah Barlow and had Mary.
v. Mary Gorham married John Sherwood and they were the parents of Asa T. Sherwood
