My great-grandmother Magdalena Vogt Willi used to tell my father that when she emigrated from Switzerland, their ship got stuck on a sandbar and they had to sit offshore for several days before the ship could land.

I recently found that Magdalena and her sister came over on the ship St. Nicolas, which arrived in New York on 12 Sep 1856. I know it's a long shot, but I'd love to find a newspaper article or some other source corroborating her story, and I am hoping somebody here can give me some suggestions.
