The name Moses Shirley caught my eye, because he is grandfather to my Nancy
Jane Shirley (1843-1916) who married Smith Champion. My Nancy is a
daughter of Isaac Shirley (1805-1858) and Elizabeth Cox (1809-1876).

However, when I looked at the cards for Isaac's parents, Moses Shirley Sr
(1777-1861) and Nancy Dale (1775-1862), I find that this couple also had a
daughter named Nancy:

Nancy Shirley b 1802/1808? KY? d April 6, 1872, Hamilton Co. IL,
married John Hall b c1800 KY, an early settler in Hamilton Co.

Connie Sheets gives her DOB c1802, says Barren Co. KY. Moses Shirley Sr
moved from KY to IL "at an early date." Information concerning his daughter
Nancy and her family can be found in one of those county histories for
Hamilton County in a biography of grandson John Carroll Hall. I also found
information on Moses' family in "History of Illinois and Her People" (Smith, 1927).

There is another possibility who might be your Nancy: Moses Sr's son,
Moses Dale Shirley (1812-1905) who married Jerusha Hancock, had several children,
including a daughter identified as "Nancy Ellis Shirley," but I have no
dates for her.
