You get off the list EXACTLY as it states in the welcome message.
Send a note to with the command
UNSUBSCRIBE as the only line. If you have an automatically attached
signature file, add a second line: QUIT so the autobot will stop
processing your message there and not go into your sig lines. It'll
burp up the entire message if it does.
If your mailer DEMANDS you enter a subject line, include UNSUBSCRIBE
in the subject. The autobot finds it there as well (at least on my
mailer).
Gary, YOUR address got the message because the message was sent to
the entire list. Since you are a subscriber on the list, you get a
copy. If it is not specifically addressed to you, you can either
ignore it as retorical or go ahead and answer showing everyone you
are a VERY dedicated genealogist, but a newbie InterNetter. ;)
I've been on lists since 1987, so I've had to deal with the nuances
of the early Internet and with one of its subsets, BITNET. Person-
ally, I liked BITNET better, but it had so much overhead, it was
clogging up the net.
I've got TWO links to Shoemakers in my line. Both connect to the
Hüecker/Heacker line. Does ANYONE have any Shuemaker's from
Augsburg, Bavaria around 1775? Adam Hüecker married Mary Shuemaker
at that time before moving his family to Valmede, Westfälia.
They had children: unknown (female); Herman; Adam; Mary; unknown
(female); & unknown (female). The eldest daughter was a general
store proprietor. I don't know if that was in Bavaria or Westfälia,
but my guess would be Bavaria.
Herman took over the family farm in Bavaria when his father bought a
hotel in Westfälia. HIS youngest son migrated to Louisville, Ky.
and this branch of the family maintained the original Hüecker
spelling.
Adam was a hotel proprietor and had 8 children including Joseph
Johannes. J.J. married aristocratic Fredericia von Loesse. They
begat Dr. William Joseph and then moved with Dr. Joe to Philadelphia
in 1852 then to Kentucky and finally settling in Beans Station,
Grainger County, Tennessee. Dr. Joe married Armilda Wright. They
begat Armilda Maude (Millie) who married a Looney named Edward Ervin
(Looney). They begat Joseph Paul who married Lillie May Littrel of
Collin County, Texas. They begat Edward Edison who married Alice
Day Roberts of Montague County, Texas. They begat Edward Geoffrey
(me) who married Tracy Lynne Childers of Dallas County, Texas. We
begat Edward William and Shannon DyAnne (all LOONEY). Biblical,
isn't it?
I don't know anything about Mary Hüecker, but the next girl married
a Pulitzer who moved to Philadelphia and took up a very significant
law practice. He died in 1876 as one of the most prominent layers
in the city.
CONNECTION #2: The next daughter married a Schuemaker and they also
moved to Philadelphia along with the Pulitzers. They migrated on to
Covington, Kentucky where he was a renowned taylor.
My primary interest is in the family of MARY SHUEMAKER of Augsburg,
Bavaria. But, it wouldn't surprise me to find connection #2 was
of the same family. Wouldn't surprise me if it weren't.
