2002 Shoulders Ancestral Reunion

Hi to all the Shoulders, and extended families,

Our 2002 Shoulders Ancestral Reunion will be held at the Donoho Hotel in Red
Boiling Springs TN. The date is August 17, & 18 2002. We extend this
invitation to everyone who are either related or are believed to be related
through the Shoulders family. Be advised that the vast majority of our
guests will come on Saturday. The hotel has 32 rooms completely renovated
and are expecting more to be completed this year. People generally start
showing up about 9:30 AM, CDT. If anyone cares to purchase the lunch
provided by the Donoho Hotel, it will be served at noon. For those who need
over night accomadations, reservations can be made by emailing, or calling
the Donoho Hotel: telephone: 1-615 699-3141. The
Donoho Hotel prices are very competative in the area. This letter will go
out to all with a flyer indicating pricing for the Donoho Hotel very soon.
Perhaps this will help you decide whether you wish to stay over and for how
many nights. Please let them know as soon as you can by making your
reservations. We will be booking the hotel for the whole weekend.

We have over 300 historical photos either on line or soon to be on line. We
have not yet been able to tie any of our oldest known ancestors to the other
Shoulders/Sholar families to this date. We do know that "Malachi Shoulders",
born in ca. 1775-81, is the oldest known ancestor who can be documented as
such. The newest but not yet documented information is that Malachi’s father
may have been “Moses Shoulders/Sholar, of N.C. Hopefully, some of our newer
researchers may be able to tie Malachi Shoulders in with this
Shoulders/Sholar family of Bertie, NC. Contact me for procedures on how to
gain access to the MyFamily.com site.

Last year our cousins Judy (Clark/Shoulders) and Denny Brown of southern
Ohio plotted a large family chart and that covered nearly half of the Donoho
veranda wall. In addition, a 25-page descendancy list was handed out which
included over 1500 direct descendants and their spouses. This tied almost
all the oldest family members together and allowed each of us to see just
where we fit in the big scheme of things. This list is being included with
all the researched data that was plotted and presented to us this spring by
Nancy Gann of her Thomas Timberlake family and my Levi family. This project
will be constantly “under construction”!! Hopefully in a few years we will
have the whole family in a large volume of some sort which I am sure will be
the most (Shoulders and related families) ever assembled in one book. We
encourage everyone to supply information on his or her immediate family tree
if you haven’t done so already. The information is been recorded using
Family Tree Maker. A copy of the file is free for the asking.

As we were winding down last year’s reunion a few of the last ones to leave
thought it might be interesting if everyone wrote a brief biographical
sketch or a family story about him or herself. We are enclosing a "model"
for you to follow, if you like. There are no specific rules or guidelines
for this exercise, just give it your best shot. The most important thing is
to identify your parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

Example:
Dennis Morgan Brown was born August 22, 1946 at what is known today as the
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Hospital, Fairborn, Ohio. He was the first
born to Clermont Edmund and Margaret Edna (Morgan) Brown, descendants of
German and Welsh immigrants who settled in north-central and southeastern
Ohio in 1840's and 1830's, respectively. Mr. Brown worked over 33 years for
the U.S. government in both military and civilian capacities. Upon marriage,
Mrs. Brown discontinued her nursing career to become a full-time housewife
and mother. Denny's grandparents were Edmund & Ida (Fisher) Brown and
Stanley & Luella (Morris) Morgan. Great Grandparents were Jacob & Mary
(Swarer) Brown, John & Elizabeth (Klinkle) Fisher, Thomas & Elizabeth
(Richards) Morgan and Margaret Morris. The subject of this biographical
sketch attended schools in Fairborn and was involved in the typical
childhood activities. Upon graduation from Fairborn High School, Denny
headed to Columbus, Ohio to pursue a degree from The Ohio State University.
Everything was on course, until he withdrew from Ohio State to join the Air
Force Reserves (much to his mother chagrin!). One year later and with Air
Force basic and technical training completed, he returned to OSU to complete
his degree work. Graduating in March 1970 with BS in Business
Administration, he accepted a position as a computer systems analyst with
RCA. This meant six more weeks of training in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. After
completing computer training, he was assigned to the RCA marketing office in
Cincinnati. Living there only eight months, he relocated to Ashland, KY to
be site manager for a newly installed computer system. With the system
support obligation being fulfilled in Ashland, he next transferred to
Lexington, KY where, in an indirect way, he would eventually meet his wife,
Judy. The Browns set up housekeeping in Lexington, June 1977. In the spring
of 1984, he took another company transfer to Cincinnati, thus going full
circle.

Today he is systems administrator for a lighting manufacturer in a northern
Cincinnati suburb. Denny and Judy Brown are the parents of two boys Brian
Allen Brown and Eric Morgan Brown. Brian has three children, Sara, Logan and
Devon. Eric is a student at Ohio University majoring in fine arts. They
live in West Chester, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati. They are members of
Christ the King Lutheran Church in West Chester.

As far as interests go, I love travel. My dad traveled extensively with the
Air Force and I always enjoyed viewing the pictures he took. I saw those
color slides so many times, I felt like I had been to the places in those
slides myself! I have been in 45 states (several on a motorcycle (another
interest) trip!), Mexico, Canada, Italy and Germany. There is much territory
yet to be covered! I also enjoy photography. Seems like that is something
that also wore off on me. Twenty+ years ago I got involved in genealogy. I
have visited unknown cousins in San Diego, Seattle, Houston, Minnesota,
Germany and lots of smaller places in between. What wonderful ride it has
been. I am also a big sports fan holding season tickets for the Cincinnati
Reds and Ohio State football.

As far as the future goes, both Judy and I want to retire soon! But, it's
going to take a little while yet. So, in the meantime, we'll just do the
best we can.

Supply your information in electronic form if possible. Otherwise we can
transcribe hand-written entries. We will then hand out the complete
compilation at the reunion. Contact Judy and Denny Brown at:

6028 Eaglet Drive
West Chester, OH 45069
513-860-4181

A very special thanks to Judy, & Denny for the fine work they are doing for
all of this family. Without their Special efforts and assistance this
project would probably not have been done.

Finally. Please send the e-mail addresses of anyone you think might have an
interest in this reunion. E-mail will be the primary medium that we will
use to make future announcements and please tell all of your family about
this reunion.
Thanks,

Cousin, Don B. Shoulders
