My great grandfather was Charles Frederick Johann Siewert. Born 10-22-1863 married Carline Larson, lived in Trempealeau, WI.
His father was William J. Siewert, married to Hanna Voss. They all lived in West Prairie, Trempealeau County, WI. William and Hanna came from Prussia/Germany in about the 1860s. William's birthdate is 10-4-1832 and Hanna's birthdate 7-19-1841. They are both buried in Greenwood cemetery in West Prairie, WI.
My great grandfather Charles F.J. Siewert had 2 daugheters and twin sons, Florence and Margaret, and twins Clarence Andrew (my grandfather) and Laurence birthday 10-9-1892.
I don't have any information that Charles remarried. His wife Caroline died in 1915. He ran a flour mill on his property in West Prairie until about Nov. 1918, when he sold the property. At a later time (I don't know when) moved to Winona, MN.
Clarence came to Salem, OR in about 1925 with his wife Alice Halmrast Siewert. My Father Charles Louis (formerly Clarence) Siewert was born in 1916 in West Prairie, WI.
The Charles Siewert you mention in the 1880 Census is certainly my graeat grandfather, however the Charles in the Madison Census of 1920 is most likely a different Charles Siewert. There were many Siewert families with the same names such as William and Charles and Julius.
I wish this photo was my Great grandfather, but probably is not. We did not have a Marie in the family, nor an Oscar, Edna or Esther.
I wonder however if you can tell me about the person or people in the Photo. Is it a photo of just Charles? I have a family photo of Charles, his wife Caroline and the 4 children about 1900. Is there a way you could send me a photocopy of the photograph, if you still have it, or scan it and e-mail it to me. I could compare the photo with my great grandfather. He would have been about 27 years old in 1890. I can tell you he had very dark hair and a mustache but no beard in the photo I have. I suppose by now, you may have already found the rightful decendant. How did you come across this photo?
I haven't looked at the bulletin board at Ancestry.com for a long time. I should keep better track.
If you receive any e-mails from anyone claiming to be in my family line, I would certainly appreciate you passing along my e-mail address.
I hope to hear back from you. My name is :
Linda Keyt and I live in Salem, OR.
