I find a couple of WWI Draft Cards for Detroit, Wayne Co. MI for Joseph Simmons and a John A. Simmons. There are different types, one that askes nearest relative and one that asks where born. Joseph's is the nearest relative one and John A where born but he only lists North Carolina with a question mark for town.

Joseph Simmons age 34 b. Oct. 23, 1883 living at 196 Rathbone St. Detroit, MI is a Machinest at the Solvang Processor. Nearest Relative:
Ruth M. Simmons -wife-same address as above. (No place of birth asked)

John A. Simmons age 26 b. March 6, 1891 in ? NC, employer Solvang Processor, single has living at 298 Rathbone street but it is crossed out and 447 Gavin St written.

I find Joseph, Ruth and children in the 1910 and 1920 census for Detroit, Wayne Co. MI. In 1910 Joseph's age is 25, in 1820 it is 39, both born in NC.

I can't find Joseph in the 1930 census but I find Ruth Simmons as head of household living in Hadley. Lapeer Co. MI with children, listed as divorced along with son Milton. The children, Milton 24, Elmer 21, Lawrence 15, Joseph 13, Albert 9, David 6 list father born in VA.

Can't seem to pin down a Joseph and John in the same household for 1900 census for MI, NC or separate as Joeph would be old enough to be one his own. Would MI marriage records list parents? How about divorce records?
