I've just joined this list and am browsing through the archived
messages.

I'm searching for information on my GG Grandfather, HENRY SIMPSON,
especially when he was born, who were his parents, and where was the
family before Saratoga County.

My GGrandfather's death certificate indicates Henry was born in Malta,
NY, while both his wife and my ggrandfather, George B. Simpson, were
born in Half Moon. His wife was Maria (or Myria) Travis, born about
1814.

The 1850 Census shows his family in Half Moon. The census indicates
his parents were born in New York. According to the census he was born
more or less in 1811 or 1812. By that time he had 4 daughters in 1
son, George B. Simpson. He was listed as a carpenter and lived next
door to John Travis, also a carpenter, who was probably a relative of
his wife.

According to my dad, his grandfather was of English and Dutch origin.

The 1790 census shows several Simpsons in Saratoga County, but of
course there's no way to connect any heads of household to their
children. Does anyone know anything of this family? Or does anyone
know anything in general about Simpsons in Saratoga County? Were they
descendants of the Henry Simpson who settled in Maine? (One argument
for that is the longevity of some of the persons shown on one of
gedcoms I've checked---my father died last year at 102 years of age.)

Or were most or all of the Simpsons here descended from members of the
Scottish regiments who may have deserted Bourgoyne's army or opted to
stay in America after the end of the Revolutionary War? (Is that the
origin of the Frazier Simpson connection?)

Any help will be appreciated.

Sharon
