Have you found Charles John Henderson in the 1901 census? Charles
Meredith was 21 by then and may have been living on his own. He
might indeed even have been in Singapore at that time.
A census was carried out in 1901 in the Straits Settlements. A
printed report is available, but I don't know whether the individual
records are available for inspection, or even whether they still
exist. I'll try to find out.
Similarly it may be possible to find something in the birth,
marriages, and deaths records. Again, I don't know how accessible
they are.

They may well have been related. Having a relative already in
Singapore might be a reason for choosing to work there.
