Looks like an explaination is in order. I am the
alledged Tom Land. Sorry I don't get around the list
as much anymore. I certainly appreciate the work Ted,
Gary, George, Kathy and others do in maintaining
interest in the list. I try to look through messages
as I travel but my access to web sites such as Yahoo
mail has been restricted by work asn as I travel most
of the time I don't get to check often.

I am in fact a descendent of Christopher Singleton who
followed the Traveling Church from Caroline Co., VA to
Lincoln Co., KY about 1790, settling near the head of
the Wilderness Trail. I often get confused as
descending from other lines probably because I poke my
nose into any Singleton line I find that predates the
1800's. I got into genealogy as a result of a death
bed promise to my mother, Joan Singleton of Kentucky.
After a few months of work I had a list of about a
dozen Singleton names that predated 1800 so it seemed
logical to start tracking them down. Many hours of
research later the list is several hundred I guess!

My site, which Ted refers to below has been around for
years & I rarely maintain it. I have long intended to
move all my info to Ted's site as I consider his the
"Official" repository. There are quite a few really
good web sites with Singleton information and I
encourage researchers to visit all. I hope that if
you find or create a good Singleton web site you will
send the name & URL to Ted so he can put a link to it.
Maybe someday we can have a Singleton Ring of web
sites.

I started and try to maintain the e-mail list we all
use. It is an excellent tool. I can't tell you how
many "cousins" have found each other through the list.
Make sure you check the archives for your ancestor.
That is my major contribution to Singleton research
now.

Just wanted to place myself in the right line so Mom
wouldn't roll over in her grave!! Sorry to get windy
but I try to post a "history lesson" about the list
once or twice a year & it has been awhile.
