I seem to have missed the original query, but this is what I have found:
LDS has one IGI Individual Record listed for Anna Polefko, born about 1849
in "Baktakek, Abauj-Szanto." This does not make a lot of sense because
Baktakek and Abaujszanto are two separate villages in Hungary, in
Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county, perhaps 20 miles apart, about halfway between
Miskolc HU and Kosice SK.
Baktakek is also called Kek, Kety, and Szarazkek, and is very close to
Bakta. LDS has Greek Catholic records for this village.
Abauj-Szanto/Abaujszanto, also called Szanto, has Reformed, Roman Catholic,
Evangelical, and Greek Catholic records.
A check on Polefko immigrants through Ellis Island shows that most came from
Szarazkek. Two (husband and wife) came (separately) from Miskolc. One came
from Inancs (mistranscribed as Yuanco), which is also in the area and for
which there are Roman Catholic records. Another is transcribed as having
come from "Harmot," but a look at the record shows that it, too, is
Szarazkek.
All of these villages are in Hungary and all of the immigrants identified
themselves as Magyar.
Since it is not expected that Magyars would be Greek Catholic, you might
need to look at nearby villages to find their church. Knowing their religion
would be most helpful.
I hope you find this useful.
Janet

Sometime back the name Polefko was presented to this site for leads as to
possible villages or towns that could be this family's origin. It was
suggested that the name is rare but no names of towns of origin were
identified. Has anyone found any additional information? Thank you.
