Hello folks. Been lurking around in the background long enough, I imagine,
think it's about time I asked the inevitable.

I have a Hescenia Smallwood in my line (also about 6 others are in this
group with me, and we are all seeking the same information). This woman
married a William Hill, they had at least one child, this child being
Greenberry (or Green Berry) Hill. It is believed that there was also a
William Hill as a son. It is known that they, at one time lived in North
Carolina. Census records show that Greenberry was born in either North
Carolina or in Henry County, VA.

This message from my ever-growing list of cousins on this line states:

"I read one time that a signer of the Indian lands were signed by a group
of five or six Chiefs and one was Smallwood. Only one. I went to OK. and
searched one small Indian cemetery and found three markers with the
Smallwood name. No connection that I know of. The Smallwood family that I
first searched all came from MD. They seem to be leaders there. I keep
going back to the Surrey County in NC. It revealed both Hill and Smallwood
in the records in the late 1700's and if Greenberry was born in Henry
County, Va. a few years later they moved across the border."

William Hill born/1780 in NC. May have been a peddler who traded with the
Cherokee and married the daughter of the Chief (referring to Hescenia
Smallwood).

William and Hescenia married about 1804 in Henry Co. VA. Had two children:
William & Green B. Lived in Sullivan Co., TN about 1809.

2nd Child of William/Hescenia (unproven): JOHN G. HILL (I think that
Greenberry Hill was a brother to John G. Hill. He is listed in the Bible
but there is no relationship listed with it.

So, needless to say, the group of us need some assistance, and I'm going to
take the initiative and be the spokesperson and hope like heck that someone
out there has the key to unlock the door of information.
