William is not in the 1860 census with his wife Matilda in Monroe Cty IN
w/son Alexander.
Matilda died August 6 just after the census was taken. She is buried in
Smallwood Cemetery in Monroe Cty stone says "Elena wife William Smallwood"
This Smallwood family lived on the county line of Monroe/Lawrence Cty.
Wm is probably buried there beside her; it's alittle, old country cemetery.

I think his father is Wm b abt 1755 and in 1790 census in Monrgomery Cty MD
and in the 1788 in Frederick Cty MD. He may be the Wm who moved to Indiana.
I have never found my Wm in a census with parents in NC. Sure would like to
have a will or estate papers naming Wm b 1785 as son of somebody...
