John Snider is listed as a head of household on the 1830 and 1840 Haywood
County, N.C. census.
In the 1850 census book is age is given as 48; wife - Catherine "Katie"
(Smathers) - 42, marriage date - Dec. 21, 1826; children: Nelson G. - 21,
Hanry Leander - 17, Mary Ann "Polly" - 16, Elizabeth "Betsy" - 14, Barbara
E. - 12, Daniel - 8, Margaret M. - 6, and Robert Taylor - 2.

The next household is headed by George Lawson Snider [John Snider lst born]
- 23, wife - Margaret Emiline (Haynes) - 19, marriage date - Sept. 23, 1845,
son - Seburn - 3, and son - James - 1.

[Joseph md Eliz Smathers, dau/o Henry sr]
There is a Joseph Chambers listed as head of household on the 1820 census
and 2 on the 1830 census. On the 1830 both the head of households are in the
20-30 age group. One household has the oldest female in the 15-20 age group
and no children. The other household has the oldest female in the 20-30 age
group with 2 females 0-5 and 1 female 5-10. There is only one Joseph
Chambers listed on the 1840 census and the household contains 15 people.
There are no Joseph Chambers listed on the 1850 or 1860 Haywood County, N.C.
census. However, he is listed on the 1870 census in the Crabtree area at age
75, wife - Elizabeth (Smathers)- 62, marriage date July 13, 1824, daughter,
Lydia - 21, and grandson, Robert - 1. In the book, "Western North Carolina A
History from 1730-1913" by John Preston Arthur there are a couple of
references to Joseph Chambers. "On Monday, Jue 26, 1809, the court met at
the homeo f John Howell....At this June term of the court, the first for the
trial of causes, the following composed the grand jury: John Welch formean,
William Welch, John Fullbright, John Robinson, Edward Sharteer, Isaac
Wilkins, Elijah Deaver, David McFarland, William Burns, Joseph Chambers,
Thomas St. Clair, John Shook, William Cathey, Jacob Shock, and John St.
Clair. The next reference is talking about the pioneer residents of Haywood
County and her six daughters (Macon, Cherokee, Jackson, Swain, Clay, and
Graham): Col. Allen T. Davidson said, "Then there were Joshua Allison,
George Owens, John and Reuben Moody, brothers, all sturdy, hardy, well-to-do
men and good citizens, who, with Samuel Leatherwood consitituted my father's
near neighboors." "Joseph Chambers of this neighborhood moved to Georgia
about the opening of the Carroll County gold mine, sy, about 1831-32. He was
a man of more than ordinary character, led in public affairs and reared an
elegant family. His daughters were splendid ladies and married well. His
wife was a sister of John and Reuben Moody."

I could find no David Fullbright on any of the censuses. [they went to Red
Rvr Tx 1830]

I could find no John Seabolt on the censuses. Just the marriage notice that
you already have in the November 12 issue of the Highland Messenger. [he
lived with others-md Sarah Smathers, dau/o Henry jr

In the 1860 census book Mary L. (Smathers) - 27, is the wife of Thomas
Franklin Henson - 27, marriage date - December 16, 1852; [must be lst
husband, some have Elias Medford as her husband ??]
[she is dau/o John Smathers/Agner] wonder if Louisa Henson b 1868 that md
John Bascom Smathers [son/o Manson Smathers/Mary Cook] is their dau?]

children - James L. - 6, Sarah A. - 5, Mary M. - 2, Phedelio - 2mo. I do not
find them on the 1870 or 1880 censuses. Elias Blair Medford is on 1860-1880
census always with Mary Mozella (Evans) as his wife.

John Smathers is living with his father [Henry sr] on the 1850 census and he
is 12 years old. [b 1838-so
this is WHO? I dont have a John Smathers b 1838 in my database]

There are 2 John Smathers on the 1860 census.
One is single and 34 years old. [must be Jno Chas, son of Geo Frederick] md
Lucinda Johnson

The other is 25 and married to Orro (Ellige) with no children. [??] WHO is
she??

Livng in the next household is head - Rhoda Smathers - 26, Brother-in-law,
William Pressley - 21,and sister, Barbara (Smathers) - 20, marriage date -
May 9, 1860. [Rhoda, dau/o Henry jr]

Martha Maria Samthers is living with her parents on the 1850 and 1860
censuses. I do not find her on the censuses after that. [dau/o Henry jr] md
Jas T Jones aft 1860
