Hi! I'm new to this list. I'm searching for info on my Great
Grandfather's family, HARVEY W. SMITH. My Grandfather is LEO GILBERT
SMITH. From his birth certificate, I know LEO was born in Fairfield,
Jefferson Co., Iowa on March 18, 1905. His Father's name is given as
HARVEY W. SMITH, who was a cigar maker & 34 years old at the time, &
his Mother's name is ROSE E. GLUCHOWSKI, who was 21 at the time & a
housekeeper. It states that they were both born in PA. LEO later
returned to PA & died there July 7, 1972. He is buried in Spies Zion
Cemetery, PA.
In the 1880 United States Census for Upper Hanover, Montgomery, PA.,
I found HENRY G. SMITH, age 50, who was also a cigar maker, & his wife,
MARY MAGALENE STRICKER, age 43, keeping house. CLARA ANNA SMITH, Dau.,
age 15, OSWIN SMITH, son, age 10, HARVEY SMITH, son, age 9, WILLIAM H.
SMITH, son, age 7, SARVATUS SMITH, son, age 6, MARY JANE SMITH, Dau, age
9 months.
Also, from the IGI individual record for HARVEY SMITH, states he was
born 12 Mar. 1871 in Klinesville, Berks, PA. He died 01 Jul 1945.
