The following is quoted from http://www.familytreedna.com/privacy.html
"If a genetic match is found between you and another individual who
enters the library at some time in the future, both will be given the
information that a potential match is in the database provided that BOTH
of you have signed the Release Form."

What I get from this is that if you want to get maximum results from DNA
testing, you will sign the release form.

My experience in this area follows:
I was recently informed by the administrator of antoher DNA project (a
surname other than Smith) that I am a 12-12 match
with a member of that project. I have not yet been able to ID or
contact this person. Perhaps the administrator and/or the
member are very busy but will contact me or perhaps the member has not
signed the agreement.
I will not identify this project because I respect and abide by the
security measures.

My point is: If you can afford the fee and proceed with DNA testing, get
the maximum Return On Investment by signing the Release Form.
