Eddy, Sorry we got into the briar patch. Do you know anything about the following situation?
I still need a Joseph D. Smith (b. PA abt 1785 died after the 1840 census). He went from PA to northeast KY about 1820 with infant son Josiah. Think his wife was Mahala (b. PA abt 1800 who died after the 1850 census). They had six more children almost yearly until 1828. I do not have the names of what must be four girls. John was born in 1826 and I know he died in Portsmouth OH in 1912. The eighth and last girl, Theresa, was born in 1843 which was 15 years later. (What happened? Did she make him sleep in the woodshed? There was also, a boy William Smith born in KY in 1812. Question was did Joseph D. go to KY with wife one and have William and die, then go back to PA for wife two, get her pregnant and bring her back to KY? Or was William a nephew? William Smith married Celia or Sarah and they had nine children, he died after the 1880 census. John A. Smith married Dorcas D. Waring and they had six children. All this happened in Greenup Co KY also.
My great grandfather, Joseph Madison Smith, was born of Joseph D. and Mahala in 1824 in Lewis Co KY. The rest of the crowd was born and appears on the censuses in Greenup Co KY. Joseph M. married in OH Mar 8, 1818 to Jemima Crull in Portsmouth OH and moved to IN in 1863. Theresa never married and died in Clinton Co IN in 1872 at the age of 29. She was living with her father, Joseph M. and his second wife Maria Margaret Cunningham.
Anybody got a clue to this situation? I would LOVE SOME HELP.
