The John A. Smith was born in Greenup Co KY in 1826 and died in Portsmouth OH in 1912. He was married to Dorcas D. Waring. I can give you the names of their children if you are interested. John A. Smith's parent are the "uncertain folks" I am looking for. I think they are Joseph D. Smith born in PA about 1785 and died in Greenup Co KY after 1843 (he had a daughter Theresa/Thiriza born in 1843). The mother may have been Mahala who was born in PA about 1800 and died in Greenup Co KY after the 1850 census. There is 15 years difference between the last child and Theresa, making me think Mahala may have been wife # 2 with wife #1, mother of at least 7 children dying and Theresa's mother coming into the picture somewhere in those 15 years. Does this ring any bells with you? The only George (1) Smith I have found was son of William Smith (b 1812 in KY) and Cela or Sarah b. 1810 in VA. This George (1) Smith had a son George (2) C. Smith b 1867 in KY. George (2) was married to
Amania b. 1851 in KY. This William Smith is of uncertain parentage as well as he was born in KY and Mahala could not be his mother being only 12 at the time of his birth. Oh well, let me know if this makes any sense to you.
