I am interested in early N.J.. I have a book titled New Jersey in 1793 by James S. Norton. It is an abstract and index to the 1793 Militia Census of the Sate of New Jersey. I also, have L.P. Allen's Shreve-White genealogy/history privately printed in 1897 in IL.

The second wife of Thomas WHITE (1751-ca.1827) was Amy McGEE (that's how Allen spelled it). Some years ago I stumbled unto a MEGHEE researcher, from him and the New Jersey Archives, I came up with the lineage of Amy which was --
her parents - Safety MEGHEE (b. 1731 Monmouth Co., N.J. m. Mary FOLWELL before Oct 1756 probably in Burlington Co., N.J., Safety died after 1770 prob. in Bordentown, Burlington Co., N.J.)
Safety's parents - William MEGHEE m. about 1726 to Amy BORDEN (dau. of Safety BORDEN b. 1682 & ?? GROVER)

I have never tried to tie my MEGHEE line to a SMITH line. I do have two SMITH lines. One I know from PA. back to northern Ireland. The other is barely started with an Elizabeth SMITH who married a John WHITE probably in New England, possibly in N.H. I would be very surprised if either SMITH line passed through New Jersey.

I see one John Derick in the 1793 book's Index on p. 459 [p. 180 in the Amwell Militia] (There are three (3) John SMITHs and a Hezekiah SMITH, a Walter SMITH, a Jeremiah SMITH and a Jacob SMITH and a Joseph SMITH listed in the Amwell Militia.). Apparently Amwell is a township in Hunterdom Co., N.J.

That is the end of this random act of kindness.
