Hi Jeannie,

We have at least 2 things in common:
1.) The given name "Orville" occurs in our SMITH research.
2.) We have PA roots.

However, the earliest I am aware of a related Orville is my father's
brother, born between 1898 and 1906
in Milltown, Middlesex County, NJ. I'm guessing late 1904 (my father
was born 16 Sept. 1903 and the Wright
brother's first flight was 17 Dec. 1903). He died in infancy.

My great grandfather Charles Smith, 2nd. was born in Philadelphia 1829.
His parents were Charles Smith
and Maria ___ . He married abt1850 Emeline Champion b. 1832, southern
NJ, parents Nathaniel CHAMPION
and Mary or Margaret LAYTON. Charles & Emeline relocated to New
Brunswick, Middlesex County, NJ and
had at least 8 children. I have found a Charles Somers Smith b. 1898 m.
1820 Maria Wilhelmina PALESKE
b. 1899 in Philadelphia, but I have been unable to prove they are my
great great grandparents.
However, I'm temporarily claiming them until they are proven unrelated.

I have been aware of 3 living Orville Smiths, two of which caused at
least confusion or slightly worse. The first
occurance was when we got each other's medical records in the USN. This
guy was really sick! The second
didn't pay his auto insurance and my policy was cancelled (twice before
I changed insurance companies)!
The 3rd was a co-worker of one of my uncles at DuPont. I met him at my
uncles wake. He was a really nice guy.

In grade school I had to fight for my name and I swore I would not pass
it on. My son is Douglas, as in Mc Arthur.
