Subject: [SMITH-PA] More pieces to the SMITH puzzle along with some Deahlpieces
Date: Sun, 13 Jan 2008 07:22:51 EST
This list seems to be getting a little active again. SO once again I will
post what I am looking for and what I need and hope someone else out there is
looking for the same.
My great grandfather, William H Smith. (why didn't they name him Hector or
Oscar??) anyway. William was born 1835-37 somewhere in England. And came to
the US in 1842 I have checked Ellis Island and found hundreds of William
Smith coming to the US. There is a William Smith coming on the Thomas P Cope,
landing in Philly, but without parents that is the best match, but no
conclusive evidence. There are 2 other Smith children arriving with him at that
time, One is Francis, the other I can't make out. All of them seem to be
living in an orphanage
My William married Eliza Anne Deahl b 5 sept 1831, d/o of Jacob and Sarah
Burke Deahl from Stoycetown, Somerset Co Pa. They had 2 chlidren, John, and
Agatha
Shortly after the birth of Agatha in Maryland, Eliza died. William then
married her first cousin, Elizabeth or Elisabeth Deahl born 29 May 1857 and d/o
of Simon and Catherine Sliger Deahl. Together, they had 13 children,
Simon, Julia, Mary, Lucy, Daniel, Maude Della, Orpha Daisy, George, Charles,
Bertha, and William Jr. I have been searching for almost 16 years on any
information for William. I do know that the last 9 chlidren were born in Preston
Co, West Virginia.
is anyone looking for this Smith or Deahl family, or maybe even Sligers?
I am at a very thick brick wall right now. I would be happy to exchange
information.
Be Well and God Bless
Bev
