1870 William and Eliza are in Distrive 5, Allegany Co Md
1880 Eliza is dead, William is married now to Elizabeth and living in
Cove, Barbour Co VA (WV)
Q - Why cannot Eliza be the same person as Elizabeth?
William H. disappears from 1842 to 1870. If you were an able bodied male, would not you make yourself scarce, before the Civil War until if was over? West Virginia came into being because of the differing opinions in old Virginia over slavery.

There are 2 Beverlys on this list, I'm still in Almost Heaven, West
Virginia, where my great grandfather, William H Smith died. To answer the question
as to the locality of his birth, All census records that I have found, he
states that he was born in England and came to the US in 1842. He has really
been hard to find, He seems to completely disappear from 1842 until 1870
where he is living in Allegeny Co MD. Time Line for William, Elizanne and
Elizabeth
abt 1835 William born England
abt 1841 Elizanne, first wife born in Addison Twp Pa
abt 1842 Imm to US age abt 6
abt 1857 Elizabeth born in addison twp pa 2nd wife
1860 NOTHING
1866 First son John born in PA abt 1866
1870 MAY Agatha is born
1870 William and Eliza are in Distrive 5, Allegany Co Md with son John
and daughter Agatha
1880 Eliza is dead, William is married now to Elizabeth and living in
Cove, Barbour Co VA (WV)
1890 Nothing
1900 Family now living in Portland District, Preston Co WV
1909 William dies in Corinth.
Does any of this ring a bell for anyone?
Be Well and God Bless
