Rev. Josiah Smith was the son of George Smith, grandson of Thomas
Smith, Landgrave of the Carolinas, and Dorothy Archar
.
Josiah was born 25 Dec 1704 at Charleston, Charleston, SC and died 19
October 1781. He married Elizabeth DARRELL,(b. ca 1710 in South
Carolina(?) d.10 June 1759 at Charleston, Charleston Co., SC) about
1730 at Charleston, SC.

I am descended from their son, Josiah Smith, Jr, also of Charleston.

Unfortunately I cannot access my database just now, otherwise I'd send
you a register report. Both of the Josiah Smiths are well-known in
Charleston history; the elder was associated with The Independent
Church and the younger was a successful merchant, whose property on
Broad St. still stands. Josiah Jr. was, as well, a Revolutionary War
prisoner in St. Augustine, FL.
