SMITH _ Celia "Jean" Smith of High River, passed away at the High River
Hospital on November 30, 1999 at the age of 73 years. She is survived by her
loving husband, Dr. Arnold Smith, High River; her daughters and sons-in-law,
Ann and Ron McIntosh, High River, Karen and Charlie Myles, Lethbridge; son
Lloyd Smith, Ft. Nelson, B.C.; and her grandchildren, Robbie, Daniel,
Heather and Shannon McIntosh, and Justin and Garrett Myles. Jean is also
survived by her brother Colin (Angela) Squire; sisters, Anne (Eddie) Wood
and Patricia Marshall, all of England. She will be fondly remembered by her
special aunt and uncle, Rose and Les Burt in England; and her special Squire
cousins, Phyllis, Ted, Laurie and Doug, all of Calgary. Jean first came to
Canada on December 11, 1948 and worked as an R.N. at the High River Hospital
from 1949 to 1952. She then returned to England where she obtained her
midwifery certificate before returning to High River permanently on March
18, 1953. She was again employed by the High River Hospital as an R.N. and
later became the Matron. While at the hospital she met Arnold Smith whom she
married on July 11, 1959. Together they had three children and Jean gave up
her career as a nurse to become a full-time homemaker. Jean's life was
brightened by spending time with her family and friends, as well as by her
many hours spent in her greenhouse and garden. Her love of wildlife and
nature has been passed along to her six grandchildren. A Funeral Service
will be held at SNODGRASS FUNERAL CHAPEL, High River, on Saturday, December
4 at 2:00 p.m. with the Venerable Archdeacon Robert Griffiths officiating.
Cremation to take place at Parklawn Crematorium. If desired, memorial
tributes may be made to the High River and District Health Care Foundation
(Cancer Clinic), 560 - 9 Avenue West, High River, T1V 1B3. Arrangements in
